Spyware 101 - Information on Spyware Detection and Spyware Removal

What is Spyware?

Are you being watched? You may have spyware programs installed on your computer without even knowing they exist. Spyware is computer software that collects, tracks, monitors and logs personal information without your informed consent. Personal information is recorded using a variety of techniques that log keystrokes, track browsing histories, scan hard disk documents, capture screen shots and record instant messaging conversations.

Spyware is designed to exploit computer vulnerabilities for commercial gain. Common tactics include delivering pop-up advertising, stealing passwords, sniping credit card numbers and social security numbers, routing browser requests to advertising sites or monitoring browsing history for marketing purposes.

Detecting Spyware Symptoms

Poor system performance, new pop-up ads, a new toolbar browser, or an unfamiliar homepage are common symptoms of spyware infection. Increased SPAM emails can also flag a compromised computer that is broadcasting information back to the spyware predator. There are, in fact, many symptoms that can signal spyware infection.

Spyware Removal

Spyware removal software is the quickest, easiest way to remove spyware from an infected system. You can also manually remove spyware by making changes to computer files like the system registry. Most Internet security software programs like CyberDefenderFREE are bundled with spyware removal.

Once spyware has been identified and removed from your computer, it is important to run frequent scans of your system's hard drives to insure that new programs are not allowed to install themselves, thus preventing Spyware. Even before the first sign of spyware trouble, scan your computer's files for potential trouble. Also, be sure to update the list of known spyware definitions frequently so that recent spyware creations will not slip through your computer's defense system.
